Black-naped hare


Black-naped Hare ,  Visakhapatnam

Black-naped hare / Indian Hare can be easily recognizable with a rabbit like appearance with long ears . Hares dig out small depressions on the ground like puddles . Look out for large depressions on the ground when you are walking in the forested areas or agricultural fields . The hare can be seen during night times .


Hares can be found on hills around Vizag and they can also be seen at agricultural lands . Hares can be seen around residential areas around outskirts of Visakhapatnam . 

Hares area heavily hunted by poachers and some villagers who release hunting dogs on them and also trap them . Forest fires are also another threat . They are locally called as " Chevula pilli " 

IUCN status : Least Concern
