Indian gray mongoose ( Herpestes edwardsii ) is a grey - brown grizzly herpestid lives in open scrubland , hedgerows and thickets. It's seen singly in pairs or as family unit .
It can be seen moving along trails at a brisk pace stopping to look for rats , mice , snakes , lizards, frogs .It also eats fruits .
Its a ferocious fighter , it lives in burrows in ground and sometimes in vacant termite hills .
