Wood Sandpiper , Visakhapatnam
Wood Sandpiper(Tringa glareola ) is the smallest of all the shanks. It is a widespread specie and often seen on freshwater bodies during migration and winters.This wader walks over mudflats to search for tit-bits probing into the mud with its bill. The tail may bob up and down in an exaggerated fashion the diet consists of insects, larvae, worms and molluscs . Favours more of an open habitat
A winter visitor to most of the region: a summer breeder in the north.
